Hi Lana and thanks for getting in touch with us. We don’t have a dedicated gluten-free facility, however our strict production schedules and quality assurance methods ensure that when we say it’s gluten-free on the package, it truly is. There are several safeguards in place and products that contain gluten are made first and then the entire line is cleaned and the process re-starts. In addition, the equipment and cereal is periodically inspected & tested for gluten contamination. To ensure the safety or our gluten free products, ingredients used in gluten free products are stored in a segregated area of the facility. Before each product is made, we do a full allergen clean-up on the production lines. We also use various cleaning methods such as rinsing, hot scrubber machines, vacuums and organic compliant cleaning solution followed by protein tests on the equipment. Cleaning is supervised and checked off by Q.A. To further ensure that our equipments is free of gluten, a specified portion — at the beginning of the run — is not utilized in gluten-free cereals. A sample of the final gluten free product is tested specifically for gluten to 20ppm as per regulatory requirements for gluten free products in North America.
We are fully confident that our gluten free products are acceptable for those following a gluten free diet and we haven’t had any incidents regarding our gluten-free products. I hope this information gives you faith in us to produce healthy and safe food for all our gluten-free friends! Please see our list of gluten-free products for more info: http://www.naturespath.com/eat-well/gluten-free-celiac-diet Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

Hi there and thanks for taking the time to answer this question! The molasses used is unsulfured. We don’t use sulfites in this product. The reason you now find tapioca starch as a listed ingredient is because though it’s always been an ingredient, it was mistakenly missed on the list. We then corrected this situation by adding it to the list. Take care, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

I have noted that the ingredient list on the boxed Koala Crisp is different from the bag. Specifically, I have problem with tapioca. Is the boxed ingredient list accurate that it does not contain tapioca? Which would be contrary, also, to the ingredients listed here on the website, but I am hopeful…

Hi Teresa and thanks for reaching out to us. The older Koala Crisp recipe doesn’t contain tapioca, but unfortunately the new recipe does contain tapioca. So if there isn’t tapioca on the ingredients list, it’s older packaging. Our new packaging will reflect this change. All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

Thanks for getting back to me. You said that the source of the high iron levels is cocoa. However, on the EcoPac page of the Koala Crisp, you said that the iron level was a misprint on the packaging. Is it still misprint?
Hi Cereal Muncher and thanks

Hi Cereal Muncher and thanks for the continued follow-up. Essentially, both answers are correct: the iron content DOES come from the cocoa in the cereal, however there IS a misprint on the packaging as to what the exact iron level is. We are reviewing nutrition values on the packaging to ensure future accuracy. Stay tuned! All the best, Justine, Nature’s Path Team

Very glad to hear there is no milk in Koala Krisp. We have a little girl who is very sensitive to dairy. After I had already given her some, then I began to wonder what natural chocolate flavor might be. I wondered if it was natural “milk” chocolate. So glad it isn’t! Having Koala Krisp makes our little girl feel very special. I’m so glad I can keep giving to her and not have to tell her she can’t have it because of dairy allergies.
Keep up the good work!

Hi there! I’m just curious - the label on this website says the iron content in Koala Crisp is 15% per serving, but on the actual product box, it says 20%. Which one is accurate, or are they both mislabeled? If not mislabeled, then I’m curious about the source for the high iron levels :)
Thanks!

Submitted by Jamie on July 28, 2011 - 08:09.
Hi there and thanks so much for getting in touch with us. The nutritional label that we have on our website is from our US packaging and the packaging you have with 20% is from Canada. They are different because the Canadian recommended dialy intake (RDI) for iron is 14 mg and US RDI is 18 mg. Because the RDI is different in each Country, the daily value % is also different. And the source for the high iron levels is due to the delicious organic cocoa! Take care, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

The answer to the question about corn derivatives needs to include a comment about molasses, which can be made from corn. That's what WE need to know. Thanks for the alcohol info but please tell us if your molasses is from cane sugar, beet sugar or, and especially, corn. Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to follow up with us. The natural flavor in this cereal is from fruit, spice or plant, and alcohol is sometimes used in the process of extracting these flavors from the fruit/spice or plant. We use organic alcohol derived from non-gmo corn, but by the end of the cooking process the alcohol has mostly evaporated. Please take care, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team

can Envirokidz fortify their cereals with B12 like nestlé and kellogg’s do? i’m vegan and normally get it from cereals and non-dairy milks.

Thanks for getting in touch JT! As an organic company we don’t alter our cereal with synthetic substances only to call these additives vitamins or minerals. The cereals we make are mainly made up of fiber, carbohydrates, protein and omega fats (the good fats). We suggest you go to your medical practitioner or nutritionist and find out how you can best incorporate B12 vitamin into your diet naturally. All the best, Jamie, Nature’s Path Team
I have enjoyed Koala Crisp
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on January 14, 2011 - 10:56.
I have enjoyed Koala Crisp for many years. I saw that you are now offering it in a large bag, so I purchased it on my last trip to Whole Foods in Glastonbury, CT. Today I opened it for the first time, and poured myself a bowl for breakfast. Most of you know what an old damp basement smells like, right? That dry mildew smell that burns your throat? This is what this bag of Koala Crisp tasted like! I had a bad burning sensation in my throat, I had to rinse out my mouth, brush and gargle to get the horrible taste out of my mouth. I loved Koala Crisp, but will never be able to purchase it again. Not even in the box after this situation. I wanted to call the company and tell them about it, but all I found was an address, and a small note saying if I was not satisfied, to send the empty bag back for a refund. I am very concerned this item is tainted and this will not help others to avoid the same fate as me, so I am trying to get the information out to the company and others this way.
I too had this experience

I too had this experience recently but with the boxed cereal and was glad to hear someone else had also informed the company. In fact I logged on today to notify the company of just this problem. I have been eating this cereal for years and know how it should taste. I found it to be less mold like though and more like a plastic flavor. I opened a new box and had to throw out the first bowl. My husband took it back to the store and got another one but it had the same best before date (2011 Nov 12 - 23 17 31369) and that one too had this bad flavor. It isn’t quite as strong but still there. I am very concerned that the product has been tainted and needs testing. I recall the melamine scares a few years ago. I have not eaten any more of it. Please address this issue as soon as possible. Something is not right.

Why are the questions regarding “natural Choclolate flavor being ignored?” The inquiry has been made three times with no response as to what is the content of the natural chocolate flavor. I can’t purchase and eat a product if it may make me sick and so without that information can’t try your product. I have many food sensetivities and can’t take the risk. I can only assume that the reason the contents are not being revealed is that while it is natural - it has ingredients that are potential allergens for some people.
