Nature’s Path to Adopt New Canadian Organic Standards
Nature’s Path among First to Receive Approval to use
Canadian Organic Logo
RICHMOND, BC - Nature’s Path Organic Foods, Richmond, B.C., North America’s number one brand and producer of organic breakfast foods, is among the first companies to receive approval to use the Canadian Organic Logo. Passed on June 30th, 2009, the Canadian Organic Products Regulations has set a new benchmark for Canadian organic food standards.
“Nature’s Path was the first cereal company in North America to receive USDA organic certification, and we are delighted to now be able to show our commitment by also being one of the first to be approved to use the Canadian organic logo,” said Arran Stephens, founder and CEO of Nature’s Path.
All products labeled as organic in Canada must now be certified by a federally accredited certification body or under an equivalency agreement such as the agreement between US and Canada. Also, products with less than 95 per cent organic ingredients cannot use the logo, and cannot be identified as an organic product.
“This is a big win for the Canadian organic movement and especially for consumers,” continued Stephens, “By having a consistent logo and set of regulations, it will be easier for everyone to make educated and assured choices about the organic products they consume.”
Nature’s Path will be phasing in the Canadian Organic Logo onto its product line over the next six months as its packaging comes up for renewal. Dag Falck, Nature’s Path’s Organic Program Manager, said, "By phasing in the logo instead of throwing out our current packaging we maintain our commitment to sustainability."
